Five days before Christmas day, Andrew and Elena came together as one at the Trailside Event Center in Peoria, IL. These two were high school sweethearts and they had been together for many years. The cold, winter day was filled with warm hearts as friends and family came together to celebrate this union.
As the three of us were planning the wedding, Andrew and Elena had a quite unusual request from me. They explained how they wanted the ceremony to be an "in the moment" kind of thing. They then asked that I not take any photos during the ceremony at all. This was a first for me, so I honestly wasn't sure what to think of it, but oh my goodness was I wrong. Their ceremony was so beautiful, intentional, and simple. I loved having the opportunity to just enjoy it with everyone else. My favorite thing they did was their unity ceremony. The two mothers went to the back of the rows with candles and lit each side, then each person lit each other's candles. The pastor went on to say that Andrew and Elena asked that they do their unity ceremony in this way to show their appreciation for all of those who have supported them and helped them through their relationship. Wow. So powerful. It was an absolutely beautiful evening.
